It's been awhile.
My thoughts are already swirling and twirling about our show
this year....the poster and postcards are forming in my head.
I have had emails from vendors who are excited and already
planning their booths and collecting their goods.
I've also started collecting a few things of my own.
*wink and a smile*
I have a vision for the direction of the show and I am so excited.
It'll be a place where you will find goodies and amazing vendors
that you won't find anywhere else. Excitement. Excitement. Excitement.
I will be announcing the date soon...just waiting to see when
*SPARK* is because I can't miss my creative fix.

In other news...
I just received my copies of *FOLK* Jan/Feb 2012.
It's lovely.
It is inspiring to me to see these young people so full
of ambition and full of love for our beautiful country.
So full of love for our American way of life and for
the people that make it a special place to live.
Including the artists who hand make and
appreciate items that are American made and full
of quality and history...the same things that I appreciate.
They are good, down home, southern kids that
WILL make a difference. I love it!
So, because I totally slacked off and didn't get
my Christmas issue give-away done I will be giving
away both the Christmas issue and the new issue to a
lucky winner on Tuesday, January 30th.

Rocky Mountain High

I want you to hum the tune of that John Denver song as you look at these...
he's singing about Colorado but it applies.

I always feel so blessed to live in Utah.
It is beautiful here...year round and throughout pretty much all of the state.
My favorite time of year is Autumn...but that special time of Autumn when the
first snows start to fly but it isn't quite winter like.
I am a skier...not so much as I've gotten older but when I was younger I looked
forward to the resorts opening almost as much as Christmas.
There is nothing like skiing down a mountain with cold wind in your
face and your hair a flyin.
I got distracted there for a sec...sorry.

A couple of weeks ago I got to go scouting for deer camps with the man.
It was breathtakingly beautiful because we had just had our first snow storms
up high in the mountains. So the leaves were still turning and the snow...ahhh.

I thought I would share a few pictures...

The little ones and I had a fire while the man went on a little four wheeler ride up into the snow...

that kid knows how to cheese it up for me! *smile*

FOLK Give-Away

I ordered two from the BARN HOUSE BOYS just so that I could give one away!
I have a huge magazine problem....
I still have the first issue of Country Living I bought in about 1998.
I look at magazines as a book and I still have my original copy of
'Little House in the Big Woods' that I got when I was 7. True Story.

Now, I don't keep every magazine that I get but I do have quite a collection.
And I know a good magazine when I see one...this one is good.
FOLK is a new magazine that is chock full of primitive down-home country goodness.

Setting Up

I thought I would share just a few pictures....

This man must love me because he does things for me that he

doesn't quite get why he does for me...

like hang 16 ft ladders from the front of our patio for a booth.

*he must be smitten* HA HA

It's amazing what you can do with branches

off of an aspen tree, some weeds, and a few curly willow sticks.

You can turn any old ladder into something a little tree houseish.

Our Uncle Robert is the official Fallow Field Farm Marketplace weed gatherer.

I swear if there is a blooming or pretty weed growing somewhere close he knows just

where to find it and is happy (I think) to go and hunt them down for me!

I wish I had a better picture of this but it was AWESOME!

I love it when you have an idea and it looks just like you envisioned it.

This sign is a gathering of vintage letters I got from Etsy....

I took an old piece of barnwood fence we had laying around,

painted it with layers of different colors of paint,

weathered it a little and it turned out the perfect shade of *green*.

The whole thing was just so dang pretty that it's still sitting atop the arbor...

I just don't have the heart to take it down yet. *smile*

Those weeds made a most beautiful bouquet full of all

that autumn has to offer with a little curly willow stuck in here and there

and, of course, one of my favorite things....pumpkins!

The vintage black bicycle gets brought out this time of year

because I like to pretend that some pretty gal

rode up on it with her basket full of flowers and came to visit us.

Well there are a few...there are many more and I will be putting them on here and there over the next couple of weeks. I want to show you the awesome goods that my vendors brought and some more pictures of booths and the *farm*.

It's Chili Time!

It seems like my love for cooking really shows up in the fall...

So, one day in early fall every year,

I get out the soup pot

and make Aunt Evelyn's chili recipe.

It lasts us through the winter because I

make a double batch and freeze a bunch.

Today was chili day....I love chili day.

It means a good homecooked meal that everyone will eat.

Even the little one who doesn't eat much of anything will eat chili!

And, to top it all off, it was the new Amazing Race day too!

We love the Amazing Race around here.

Aunt Evelyn's Chili

3 Cups Red Beans, I use Pinto beans 6 cups water

2 or 3 bay leaves 2 lbs ground beef

1/2 lb pork sausage 3 large onions, chopped

3 minced garlic cloves 2-1/2 quarts tomatoes

3-8 oz cans tomato sauce 1 Tbsp chili powder

2 small chili peppers 3/4 tsp curry powder

1 Tbsp powdered cumin 1 Tbsp salt

1/4 tsp tobasco

Wash beans thoroughly and cook until tender with water and bay leaves. Brown meat, onions and garlic. Add beans, along with remaining ingredients. Simmer together 1 hour. Even better the next day!

There you go!

Simple as can be...

if you choose to double it make sure to have a big ole soup pot.

It makes ALOT of chili. yummy, yum, yum.

Humanitarian Project

Mr. Fallow Field Farm's little brother and sister recently deployed to Iraq.

She for the first time and him for his second round.

I received an email from his sweet wife that I will share with you.

Here is something you may not know...

not all soldiers have families who send them things.

They may not get any care packages or even letters

for the year that they are deployed.

So if you are willing and want to help here is your chance!

Bring your goods to the show.

We will have a place set up for you to donate items

and we will also collect any monetary donations.

Thank you for your help!

Hi Everyone!

I wanted to let you know about a humanitarian project I am

doing for Eric's unit, in case you were interested in helping.

I am gathering toiletries and treats to send over.

Some of the men in the unit are on bases where they have

closed the PX and they are unable to get these

things unless they are sent to them.

Here is a list of items I am collecting:

shampoo, conditioner, soap, body wash,

razors, Q-tips, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, etc.

Also, I am going to send over non-melting treats for

the soldiers to put in their packs. Finally, I am also

in need of money to ship the items over.

If you can help in any way it would be GREATLY appreciated.

I am planning on shipping the majority of it over

in October, but if you have stuff lying around,

I want to send over a small shipment ASAP

so Eric can get it out to the guys that need it!

Farm Fresh Raspberry Jalapeno Jelly Recipe...MMMM!

Our own Nikkole shared this yummy recipe with us...can't wait to make some!

Raspberry Jalapeno Jelly

1 cup fresh or frozen raspberries
1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
1/4 cup chopped jalapeno pepper
3 cups white sugar
3/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1/3 (6 fluid ounce) container liquid pectin
1 sprig fresh mint (optional)

Sterilize jars and lids by immersing in boiling water for at least 5 minutes.
In a saucepan, combine the raspberries, bell pepper, and jalapeno peppers with the sugar and cider vinegar. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, and boil rapidly for 1 minute. Remove from heat and let stand for 5 minutes.
Stir in the liquid pectin, and run the mixture through a strainer to remove bits of peppers. Pour the strained liquid into sterilized jars, and seal. Store in a cool dark place. Refrigerate after opening.

You can find her in person at the Marketplace...she is a fabulous photographer. Her husband and her also make amazing goods...last year she debuted her 'sliders' which sold like hot cakes. This year she is debuting a new picture frame...can't wait to see it! If it's as popular as those sliders were you'll want to get here early to get one. *big Smile*

What an amazing day!
The weather was beautiful, the vendors were amazing and the people who came were just so sweet.

Hi my name is Glenda Tolman. I am a mother of one AWESOME 14 year old boy and married to the best guy ever. People say that I am very crafty, but I sometimes I wonder since I always get my inspiration from other crafters. But I think all of use crafters do that. My latest adventure is “Serving Sisters.” I am started this with my great friend Maureen Porter. We each have our own unique style that we each bring to our talents. I started making Cake Plates since I have always loved them since I was a young girl. I would always watch Martha Stewart just to see what new cake plate she had in her kitchen.

We will be at Fallow Field Farms next week with all of these cute cake plates. We have all different styles and colors to “cater” to each person.

My name is Nikki, I live in Lehi with my husband of 10 years and my BEAUTIFUL baby girl. We have 4 horses and 2 dogs. I have been practicing Photography for several years just now starting to do it for the public. I love what I call "Free" photography, meaning I don't like posie pictures. I love to capture a child in their own element, rather than a forced smile. I love anything vintage or "different". I love to create Photographs you'll treasure forever, simply doing whatever it is that you do.... ie.. Anything from Laughing out loud, Dancing, Running, Swinging, even sittin' on the couch

( YES, I said it... sittin' on the couch, maybe even watching ball ) anything is possible!

My hobbies are horse riding, camping, kayaking, and snowboarding. I love to spend time with my Family and Friends. I've also been a Flight Attendant for 10 years.

nikki is married to shawn...who is my nephew so it means i'm her aunt and i love, love, love her!

Hi my name is Celeste. I am your average 10 year old that loves playing with my friends, soccer, shopping, pedicures etc. BUT I am different than most 10 year olds in the way that I also LOVE to sew and cook. This year at the farm I am going to be selling lots of yummy treats so that I can earn money to help pay for my sewing lessons, piano lessons, and clothes for school.

I will have plenty of homemade toffee, caramel pretzel sticks, cupcakes, sugar cookies, muffins, breads, peanut butter bars, crazy crunch popcorn and many other tasty treats for you to try. Wow, I bet by now you are hungry and starting to see and imagine all the goodness that I will have to share with you. Right? In fact I’m getting so tired and hungry myself just thinking about it. So I guess I better be off to my cooking.

Last year I went with my husband to New York for a get-a-way. While my husband was in some business meetings, I went to the local book store and found some fabulous publications by Stampington. I had an epiphany...I am a creative person and I love to let my juices flow. So I came home, kicked my 18 year old son into the same room as my 6 and 8 year old boys and created what I call "My Space Dot Com". (I think there might be a web site with that name). From there I ventured out from interior design, redoing furniture and countless household projects to making charms, hair accessories, book art and everything else I could learn. My passion is still design and so I try to incorporate that creative outlet into my design projects. I love Jane Austin, everything cream and chocolate!

Flying W Forge was created by Shawn and Nikkole

Winters. The name was inspired by Nikkole's

I also have the privilege of being Shawn's aunt!

Vegetable Chowder Recipe

I thought I would share the recipe for the chowder that my sweet niece made for the vendors at the show. I made a double batch the other day and it was so yummy! Perfect for this time of year and with plenty of good stuff in it....

Myrna Milne's Broccoli and Cheese Chowder

1 quart water
3 chicken bouillon cubes
15 ounce jar of Cheese Whiz (I use Walmart's brand)
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup butter
3 grated carrots (I use either match stick or baby & chop in my food processor)
1 medium potato (washed, pealed & diced)
1/2 yellow onion (I chop in my food processor)
1 stick of celery (I chop in my food processor)
1/2 tsp all purpose seasoning (I use Season All)
1 head broccoli (chopped)

In a microwave safe bowl: steam potato, onion and celery for 10 minutes. Boil water and bouillon. Add cheese whiz. Saute' & brown flour and butter. Add to water mixture. Add steamed veggies. Add broccoli and seasoning. Turn into crock pot. Add more water if too thick. Cook in crock on high for 1 hour.

**if you want the soup chunky, don't chop the onions, carrots - dice the same as the potato & leave matchstick carrots whole.

**I usually add water once it's in the crock pot, because I like it more soupy. I also cook it on low for a few hours instead of high. I think the flavors marry better.

***If you double this recipe it's going to take 2 crockpots...there's a lot of soup!

Nichole, one of our fabulous vendors, is opening a little shop in Pleasant Grove...it's located in a beautiful old house on the corner across from the park. Main and something. Here's a picture of it.

It will be a place where you can find all handmade goods that change weekly...love that! She will also have classes available...love that too! Go and visit the website and find out all about it.

She is looking for crazy talented people to come and showcase their arts.

I love all of these pictures of the sign...we waited a long time to get one

made and I'll be danged if it didn't turn out just like we wanted it to...perfection.

Nichole Huntington is so hip and fresh and cute...

she has great ideas and knows how to display them...vintage suitcases, yum.

Oh I loved these little dessert stands...so many pretty dishes.

There are so many ways to get here...I'll try to cover all of the bases.

If you are coming north on I-15...

exit on 1600 N. in Orem, it is right by The Home Depot. Come straight through that light going north and you will come to a round-a-bout. Go through that until you are facing west. You will be on 800 W. in Lindon. Go straight until you come to 300 N which is also Lakeview Rd. Turn right and we are on the south side of the street.

If you are coming south on I-15. Same directions only turn left when you get off the freeway and then left again at the next light.

If you are coming on State Street....we are the road just to the south of Utah-Idaho Map Supply. It is the next road south of Los Hermanos. At State it says 200 N but it turns into Lakeview. Go straight down that road and we are almost to the end on the south side.

If you are taking Geneva Road...turn on Center Street in Lindon. It is also the road that the church cannery is on if you are familiar with that. You will come to 800 W. take a left and we are the next road on the right. 300 N.

There will be some signs to direct you (hopefully!) and we will be the only decorated, crazy house on the block!!! ;D

Hayleaves is a one woman show... I am a very fickle girl who still hasn't decide after 4 years in business what to focus on. Therefore I dabble in just about everything. Whatever seems to inspire me that hour is what gets worked on.

My grandma taught me to sew when I was little, but the LOVE to sew didn't hit me until I had my own princess to sew for. I love everything and anything frilly, soft, and PINK!!! But here is where the fickle part of me kicks in... cause i love pastels, bright colors, black & whites, polk-a-dots, plaids, and just about any fabric I can find in my local quilt store.

I take custom sewing orders for just about anything (sorry, with a baby on the way I can't take any more big orders due by Christmas).

I've made everything from aprons to nursery sets to wedding dresses.

Lately I've spent many hours at the computer learning how to digital scrap book. Who knew something so crafty and fun could be so.... not messy? There will be a few things to show off my latest love, but most of my stuff is from my first love... baby STUFF. Bummies, Quilts, Sun Dresses, Beanies, Slings, etc, etc, etc... oh, and i may even throw in an apron or two. I also have my very first pattern in print that i'll be selling... and maybe even giving one or two away.

My mom started sewing at age 6 and the first thing she ever made was an apron. She and her grandmother would sew together every weekend from the time she turned about 10 years old until several years later. When I was little all I can remember is sitting on the ground between my mother's sewing table and my great-grandmother's sewing table waiting for the scraps to get tossed to the floor so I could "make" something. At age 6 it was decided I was old enough to learn how to sew and not only did I have my mother's original teacher (my great-grandmother) I also had a very talented sewing mother to encourage me through the process. My great grandmother was in good sewing health until I was 16 years old and I am constantly inspired now when I think of the 3 of us sewing together.

I love the process of picking out new fabrics and piecing them together for quilts, tuffets and even the covenanted apron we all began with. It constantly reminds me of how we 3 women were pieced together. While all family we could not have come from more different colored and textured fabric yet together our sewing and love has lasted much longer than any vintage quilt.

I'm grateful for their talent and hope that the bright, cheery, whimsical patterns I try to create bring as much happiness to other mother, daughter, grandmother and great grandmother generations of women as they continually do to ours.

That story is the best!

I saw Andrea's very cute aprons and tuffets at the Farmer's Market in Salt Lake and knew I really wanted her to come and be a part of Fallow Field Farm. She also recovers furniture in amazing quilts that she makes. So awesome!

This soap is so amazing. It's made with goat's milk, lye, olive oil, and coconut oil and it is so good for your skin. Cindee has all kinds of yummy scents...you'll have a hard time choosing! I've actually been able to see her make it and it is all natural and quite a cool process. She also has lotions that are made with natural ingredients...good stuff.

April Ballou is the talented seamstress behind the darling 'Zinney Lou' and her totes. You have to go and visit her website and learn all about the time and effort that goes into each hand sewn tote. They are so cute and so well made. I am super excited to have April as one of our sellers.

I asked April what is the story behind the name and it seems that when she was very young her mom would call her Zinney Lou. She has 4 sons and no daughters (no girls to carry those cute bags around?!) and used to make vests for her boys when they were young. But as anyone who sews knows at some point in time it's no longer 'cool' to wear handmade goods so she started sewing for herself. She received a lot of compliments on her totes and decided to sell them. She started selling them in boutiques and hair salons and the rest is history!

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Bread

One of our favorite fall goodies here at Fallow Field Farms is pumpkin bread with plenty of chocolate chips so I thought I would share the recipe with you.

3 c. white sugar 1 Tbsp nutmeg

1- 15oz can pumpkin puree 2 tsp baking soda

1 c. vegetable oil 1 1/2 tsp salt

2/3 c. water 1 c chocolate chips

4 eggs 1/2 c chopped walnuts

3 1/2 cups all purpose flour 1 Tbsp ground cinnamon

Preheat oven to 350. Grease and flour 2 loaf pans. In a large bowl, combine sugar, pumpkin, oil, water and eggs. Beat until smooth. Blend in flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, baking soda and salt. Fold in chocolate chips and nuts. Fill pans 1/2-3/4 full. Bake for 1 hr. or until an inserted knife comes out clean. Cool on wire racks before removing from pans. This bread freezes well.

Hope you make this and enjoy the heck out of it! Our little bake sale girl will also be making some that you can buy.:D

I love capturing the sweet innocence of a little girl, or the serenity of a brand new baby, or the tender love of a newly married couple. These life moments are so fleeting, and I am so blessed to be able to capture a few of the precious times before they are gone.

I've always loved vintage things... I live in a 100 year old home! The photos that really make me smile are the ones I put a little vintage finish to... I also love taking pictures of everyday things and turning them into something unexpected. Vintage things just feel like home... warm, comfortable, but fresh and new at the same time.

~I have wanted to open a little shop to sell my handmade things for a long long time. I really love handmade items, and the unique flair they can add to your home/wardrobe. I really love printed pictures and sadly we really don't {or at least I don't} see printed photos much anymore in this digital age. But, with the pretty frames I sell, we can have a reason to print those pictures from that favorite trip and put them on display in a unique and lovely way.

Fundraiser time

I'm Mady and also a resident of Fallow Field Farm. It's a difficult task keeping up with my busy mother and hardworking dad, but I manage.

I am also a member of the Pleasant Grove High School Cheerleading team, and since I've been on it we have not lost a competition. We are extremely hardworking, determined, strong young ladies.

I never knew how strenuous Cheerleading was on your mind, your time, and especially your body. A few fractures, a concussion, and a couple sprains later I'm still Cheerleading. It's a sport that has been voted most dangerous to participate in. My doctor told me I was crazy for doing it and that it was much more dangerous that football will ever be. How could it not be? We don't get pads and helmets!

We've been able to make it to Nationals the last two years I've been on the team, and came back successful both times with first place trophies.

This year, I get the 'opportunity' to pay for cheer myself. After all, I have 5 months until I'm 18 and soon enough I'll be paying for things like this on my own.

So, at Fallow Field Farm Days(september 26th from 9am-6pm) I'm holding somewhat of a fundraiser Bake Sale to help myself get to Nationals. There will be all assortments of yummy treats there no matter what your taste buds crave. When you come to Fallow Field Farm Days, bring your appetite and I'll work to match it:)
